Log sessions while you are still in the car park
Pick the practice, the date, your rate and whether it is pensionable. That’s it. Each practice remembers its usual fee, a regular session copies forward, and shifts can go straight into your phone’s calendar.

Automated invoice production
Select any unbilled session for a practice to create a PDF with your bank details and payment terms on it. Invoices are numbered for you, you can email or share them straight from the phone, and each one is tracked as sent or paid. No spreadsheet, and no retyping a fee you have already recorded.

Form A and Form B, filled from the same figures
Automatic completion of those annoying Form A and B forms. The 90% pensionable pay, the employer contribution, your tiered member contribution and the cumulative Box J total are all worked out from the sessions you logged. The ten-week deadline sits on the home screen counting down, ensuring you don’t miss any deadlines. Filling in the forms is part of GP Locum Pro.

Mileage and expenses, recorded as you go
The app already knows when you worked and where, so it can build your business mileage log for you. For 2026/27 that is 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p after that. Enter each practice’s distance yourself, or let GP Locum Pro work out the road distances. Expenses go in as you incur them, categorised the way your tax return wants them, and the two combine into one figure. Export a whole year, or any date range, as a PDF or a spreadsheet for your accountant.
Making Tax Digital, ready to send to HMRC
MTD for Income Tax started on 6 April 2026 for self-employed locums with qualifying income over £50,000, and reaches £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028. Every quarter, HMRC wants your income and expenses totalled into its categories and sent through compatible software. GP Locum builds each quarterly update from the sessions, expenses and mileage you have already recorded, then makes the workbook that bridging software such as 123 Sheets or My Tax Digital imports and submits to HMRC for you. No retyping, and no spreadsheet of your own to keep. MTD quarterly updates and the bridging workbook are part of GP Locum Pro.
And what to put by for the tax bill
A running figure for what to set aside, built from the sessions and expenses already in the app: estimated income tax, National Insurance, student loan and payments on account, updated as the year goes on, with GP Locum Pro. The rate setter and the salaried-versus-locum comparison are free, so you can see what a session is really worth before you agree to it.

What’s free, and what Pro adds
Your diary, invoices, expenses, mileage log and statements are free, and stay free. Nothing you have already created is ever taken away, including any pension form you have made.
GP Locum Pro is the part that does the paperwork and the arithmetic for you:
- NHS Pension Form A and Form B, filled in from your sessions, with the tiered rate and the cumulative Box J figure worked out
- Making Tax Digital quarterly updates, in HMRC's expense categories, built from the sessions, income and expenses you have already recorded
- The workbook your bridging software imports, for 123 Sheets or My Tax Digital, so your quarterly update reaches HMRC without re-entering anything
- Estimated income tax, National Insurance, student loan and payments on account, updated as the year progresses
- Automatic road distances from home to each practice, so business mileage is not quietly left unclaimed
Everything is included free for your first 90 days, with no card required. After that, GP Locum Pro is £5.49 a month or £49.99 a year.
Your data stays on your phone
There is no account to create and no server behind the app. Your records are stored on your device. Nothing is sent to me, there is no analytics, and there are no ads.
You can back up to a file of your choosing, or to Google Drive, where the app can see only the files it created there. The privacy policy sets out the detail.
It is in closed testing now
I am looking for locums to use it on real work before it goes on the Play Store. Testing runs through Google Play, so there is nothing to sideload. You get an invite link, and you use the app as you would any other. Name and email, nothing else.
The iPhone build is not ready yet. Joining the waiting list means you hear when it opens, and nothing before then.
